Such short lives, Such big hearts…

My family got Patch when he was about 1 year old, back in 2000 or 2001. He grew from a hyper young pup into a serious and obedient dog. He was the protector of our family, strong and observant. He was not the snuggly, kissy kind of dog but his eyes were the window to his soul. We knew that he loved us.

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to Patch as his health made it impossible for him to lead a happy life anymore. He was almost 15 years old! His favorite things were walks, eating scraps from the table, and playing hide and treat in the evenings. What I will miss most are the quiet moments with him asleep on the floor. Not saying anything or doing anything, but simply existing together and understanding the profound love that can exist between humans and their dogs.

Rest in peace, Patch. We will miss you!

“He died that day because his body had served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, and then was free to leave.”

  1. I’m very sorry for your loss; it’s so hard to lose such a big part of the family, even when we get them knowing that they’re not going to live forever. Patch was a beautiful dog, and I’m sure he’ll continue to watch over you.
